Reading
In kindergarten, we spend most of our morning focusing on phonemic awareness and reading skills. This time is spent in both a large group setting and with small group instruction. This format allows us to focus on phonemic awareness skills, phonics, letter recognition, sight word development, reading, and writing.
To support our reading program, our reading specialists work with chosen students for additional practice. Because reading is a priority at Central Elementary, all kindergarten children will have regularly scheduled library times and periodic visits to the Nevada Public Library. As parents, you can also support your child's reading progress at home by reading to your child and listening to your child read.
It is very important to spend time reading with your child every day!
